A practical conservation work experience programme and stepping stone into wider volunteering or the world of work.

Our practical conservation work experience programme develops essential skills through meaningful, real-life experiences. At the start of each day, young people are explicitly introduced to the skills and Skills Builder Framework steps they will focus on. Reflection time is built into activities and at the end of each day. Pre-and post-assessments use the first four steps of the Skills Builder Framework. The pre-assessment uses familiar situations, such as school, while the post-assessment enables young people to reflect on comparable situations encountered during their work experience. Skills Builder names and definitions are used consistently. The post-assessment is completed one-to-one with the lead ranger, supporting each young person to recognise and discuss their progress. Young people receive a certificate for each of the essential skill and their individual progress data is shared and agreed with them and their school, providing evidence of their development that can support their next steps into further volunteering, education or the world of work.
