The Islington Council PESSPA Team support Islington schools with their PE, School Sport and Physical Activity provision to contribute to the increased health, wellbeing and development of all pupils. This includes curriculum support, staff training and network meetings, physical activity initiatives and projects and a programme of inter-school events and competitions as well as SEND provision.

The essential skill icons are included on the events calendar and entry forms, making it clear for schools the essential skills that the event will support or also giving schools the option to select which events they attend based on the skills.

Additionally in support of some physical activity festivals social challenge cards have been developed in support of the essential skills and values, these are for pupils to complete amongst the main activities of the event.

On the reverse of the challenge cards there is a set of reflection questions which highlight the essential skill that has been linked to the event and along with the 3 most relevant skill steps. The skill steps are used to identify suitable questions for school staff to guide discussion with their pupils.
