Local Luton-based Key Stage 5 students undertake a 5-day launchpad programme to build all 8 essential skills and discover a wide range of careers in aviation. Students meet volunteers from across the business, design their very own airline and go on an airside tour. LLA Launchpad introduces students to airport departments such as Guest Experience, Commercial, Airside Operations, Aviation Firefighter Service, Sustainability and Human Resources. As they begin to navigate career pathways, students end the week with a mock interview and create a CV.

Each workshop focuses on 2 essential skills and spotlights how these are applied to one of the airport's departments.

Students engage in activities such as communicating with VIP Passengers, designing a niche airline and innovating commercial opportunities for the airport.

Previous participants highlighted the value of "getting to talk to the professionals who have a lot of career experience in the aviation industry. Their good advice has affected my perception of careers I want to go into."

"I think the group work was most valuable as it incorporated all of the skills and I definitely improved in them all."

94% of learners reported increased confidence in applying essential skills in the workplace (February 2026).
