What’s your strength?® is the brainchild of Career Development Professional, Katherine Jennick, who is passionate about using a strength-based approach to help people realise amazing they are. Founded in 2019, What’s your strength?® started as a pack of cards to empower teenagers. It has evolved into a series of award-winning resources for young people, adults, and people with additional needs. As well as the abundance of strength-based resources, Katherine also offers 1:1 career guidance for young people, and runs collaborative creative workshops for a variety of different audiences.
There are four packs of cards in the What’s your strength collection; One for teens, one for adults, one that focuses on neurodiversity, and one called Let’s get started! It’s the Let’s Get Started pack that was made in collaboration with Skills Builder and is aimed at learners with additional needs.
All four packs have been designed to help people recognise the transferable skills they have developed throughout their life experiences. Using the cards prompts thought provoking conversation, encourages self-reflection, boosts self-esteem, and helps to develop career planning skills such as CV writing and preparing for interviews.
Let’s get started! is an interactive card activity to support career learning and self-awareness for young people with additional needs. The cards are a simple yet powerful activity to help learners identify and reflect upon their own essential skills. The visual nature of the cards including photographs, simple vocabulary and consistent links to Skills Builder icons make them a perfect tool to start a journey of self-discovery.
The accompanying downloadable glossary offers clear and consistent definitions, and the instruction leaflet offers suggestions for reflective discussions and extension activities, including references to Skills Builder resources to practice skills further.
On the What’s your strength website there is an interactive resource called ‘Different ways to use Let’s Get Started! Pack’ which is packed with ideas to put the cards into practice.
