The ‘Fit for Future’ programme enables people in the criminal justice system to find hope, opportunity, and community, helping them to thrive in life beyond prison.
Building on relationships established through the eight-week Rugby Academy, participants engage in structured pre-release assessment, reflection, and targeted skills development linked to housing, finance, employability, and reducing reoffending.
The programme to build self-awareness, confidence, and practical capability, supporting participants to apply skills across custody, community, and employment contexts.
The ‘Fit for Future’ programme consistently uses the Universal Framework language and definitions across all delivery, including the Rugby Academy, pre-release, and post-release mentoring.
Participants complete detailed reflection in an introductory session to self-assess across all eight essential skills and identify a priority skill and relevant step based on their individual needs or current concerns.
Mentoring sessions are then tailored to the identified skill and step, with activities explicitly mapped to relevant Universal Framework skill steps. Participants practise these skills in real-life resettlement contexts, supported by facilitated reflection and ongoing mentoring to recognise progress and apply skills across custody and community settings.
