The Revolving Doors Academy is a peer-led, co-produced educational programme designed specifically for individuals with lived experience of the justice system. Delivered as a 12-module, 6-week intensive course, the Academy serves as a structured pathway for participants to transition into effective "member leaders."
The provision focuses on the intersection of practical skill-building, personal boundaries, and advocacy, empowering individuals to safely and effectively influence systemic change. Beyond technical training, the Academy provides a supportive learning environment where participants are coached through psychological barriers, such as imposter syndrome, to foster long-term self-worth and wellbeing.
The Academy facilitates essential skills development through a blended delivery model of online and in-person sessions, with a curriculum specifically mapped against leadership competencies such as self-management, public speaking, media engagement, strategic thinking, and critical reflection.
To ensure measurable progress, the programme integrates the Skills Builder Speaking and Listening Frameworks that allow participants to deconstruct complex communication tasks into actionable steps. This is supported by the embedding of reflective practice throughout the modules, where participants are taught to analyse their own growth objectively.
Furthermore, the provision utilises standardised self-assessment sheets to guide participants through a structured evaluation of their abilities. By rating their confidence on a scale of 1–5 for specific skill steps, participants gain an understanding of their developmental journey and are empowered to identify specific areas for further advancement.
