How can businesses support young people to develop the essential skills they need to succeed in the workplace?
Skills Builder has created a robust body of evidence which clearly demonstrates that mastery of the Essential Skills is a critical component of a successful career. Their Universal Skills Framework and accompanying resources enable Linklaters to articulate the importance of Essential Skills development to the thousands of young people who participate in our programmes each year, and, crucially, support those young people enhance their capabilities in each of the eight areas. The importance of this work for the advancement of social mobility cannot be underestimated.

To improve participants’ understanding of and confidence in the essential skills, in order to help them prepare for the world of work
To ensure a consistent language around essential skills is used throughout Linklaters’ outreach experiences, and promote the value of the essential skills to volunteers
Two outreach programmes have been impact level accredited at Impact Level 4 ensuring that the young people who take part in Linklaters’ programmes are provided high quality opportunities to develop their essential skills
Through Linklaters’ programmes, over 5,000 young people have the opportunity to develop their essential skills each year
Linklaters volunteers understand how we are supporting young people to develop essential skills. They are even more enthusiastic about signing up to volunteering opportunities, and confident in their ability to share their own essential skills

Business or teams who achieve these indicators work towards achieving an Excellence Mark accreditation.
