At Industrial Solutions Hub (iSH), we have developed and delivered a skills programme that successfully connects education with real-world opportunity, with industry challenges at its core. The programme equips individuals with the confidence, practical skills, and insight needed to thrive in the future workforce.
What sets this approach apart is its strong sense of place. Designed within a semi-rural, coastal, and geographically isolated community, the programme responds directly to local skills shortages while embracing the opportunities emerging technologies can provide. It connects the region’s nuclear decommissioning heritage with growing skills needs in robotics and digital industries.
Through a structured and well-coordinated approach, iSH delivers high-impact initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for learners, while enabling employers to build resilient, future-ready talent pipelines.
Partnering with Skills Builder allows us as an organisation to demonstrate our commitment not only to technical skills, but also to essential skills for work, ensuring that the young people and adults we work with can progress across a wide range of career pathways.

How Industrial Solutions Hub achieved their Skills Builder Excellence Standards
The Skills Builder Excellence Standards set clear guidelines for best practice across a business or team.
Business or teams who achieve these indicators work towards achieving an Excellence Mark accreditation.
The Outreach Excellence Standards are outlined below.
At iSH our mission is to empower West Cumbria’s doers, fixers and problem-solvers, to expand the region’s technical capability and drive opportunities for growth, through our industrial cluster development. iSH is the focal point from which to develop the existing business ecosystem across Cumbria, to create clusters that foster collaboration.
Working with others, we want to grow local businesses and talent, to retain our leading edge and build the local economy from its nuclear roots and grow it into something even more future focused, dynamic, and robust, and to export it beyond West Cumbria, to the economic benefit of our region.
The companies in our region are leading the way in robotics for hazardous environments, artificial intelligence for industrial applications, operational cyber security, manufacturing, materials science and solutions for other highly regulated sectors.
iSH brings together industry, SMEs, academia, national bodies, research facilities, and community stakeholders into a regional cluster focused on real-life problem solving and practical application which delivers growth, regeneration and opportunities for all.
