Skills Builder unpins all our values and this is embedded throughout the school, to our parents and children and also represented in our Towers Logo.
Overall impact
Careers week was a massive success for us. I also think with the skills embedded on the log - this makes a big difference.
Keep it simple
- CPD training, Start of September video briefing on how to set up class, curriculum maps share skill every term - this is mapped across the federation, logo - shows the skills so shared with parents, careers week is purely focused on skills builder and sheet reflects that, newsletters, twitter,
Start early, keep going
Skills Builder week, careers week, stickers given out for showing skills, displays in the classroom, constant referring back to what the skills are and how we use them through a number of themed weeks over the year, parental involvement through curriculum newsletters, letters in general, headteacher newsletters, time to shine assemblies, sports day.
Measure it
dashboard and the hub, skills builder week allows staff to choose what skills they want to focus on that they feel is a weakness in their class. Helpful due to understanding what skills children are finding difficult. ELSA groups help support children and their communication skills, being positive - skills builder is referred to during these sessions.
Focus tightly
We have included 'walkthrus' this year which as also helped language wise skills builder in the curriculum, planning and slides shown to the children continually reflects what skills are being used in specific lessons.
Keep practising
Careers week, skills builder week, maths week, geography day, enterprise - Y5 children which involves all the skills and involvement in the summer fete, cookery classes - all skills shown, friendly sports matches,
Bring it to life
Work with a number of employers for careers week, real life discussions so they understand what they need to do after education, maths - real life concepts incorporated in the scheme of work we use for maths, Y6 - consolidation projects for after SATs - talks about budget, mortgages, taxes.
What's next
Continue to grow the knowledge of skills builder and continue to embed a range of careers within our curriculum using skills builder as the driving force.
